Drywall is the job most people put off. The hole behind the door has been there two years, the ceiling stain keeps getting a little bigger, and the seam over the doorway opened up again after the last cold snap. None of it is urgent, so it waits.

We do the whole repair, not just the patch. That means cutting back to solid board, backing it properly, taping, three coats of mud, sanding, priming and painting so the fix disappears into the wall instead of sitting on it as a bright square.

We find out why first

A stained or soft ceiling is a symptom. Before we close anything up we check whether it is still wet — a roof leak, an ice dam from last winter, a supply line, or a bathroom fan venting into the attic instead of outside. Patching over an active leak just means doing it twice, so if we find water we tell you and we deal with the source first.

Cold-climate cracking

Houses up here move. Framing shrinks, trusses lift off interior walls in deep cold, and the same crack comes back over the same doorway every February. Where that is happening we repair it in a way that allows for the movement rather than just filling it and handing it back to you.

Matching texture and paint

Flat ceilings, knockdown, stipple and older sprayed textures all need a different approach to blend. Tell us what the surface looks like when you call and we will bring what we need. On painted walls we will feather the paint out to a natural break so you are not left with a patch that catches the light.

Can you match the texture on my ceiling? +

Usually, yes. Knockdown and stipple can be matched closely. Older sprayed textures are harder and sometimes the honest answer is that re-doing the full ceiling looks better than blending a patch. We will tell you which one you are looking at before we start.

How long does a repair take? +

Drywall mud has to dry between coats, so most repairs are spread over two or three visits rather than done in one go. A small patch is often a short first visit, a quick second visit to coat and sand, then paint. Rushing it is what makes a patch visible.

Do you paint after? +

Yes. We would rather finish the job than leave you with a primed patch. If you have the original paint, keep it — matching an existing colour off a chip is never quite as close.

My ceiling is soft and I think it is a leak. What do I do first? +

Put something under it, keep people out from under the soft area, and text us a photo at 249-475-5754. If it is still active we will look at the source before we touch the drywall.
